catch recordings return with their 13th release, this time from dj najaora. hes an emerging talent from the ever growing techno region in georgia who s mature, fully formed sound is showcased here across three innovative left-field techno & electro tracks. the excellent night dreamers takes the a1 spot. its an analogue electro cut throughout. with forceful broken drums accompanied by electric lead lines that provide a powerful energy for the dance floor. space call is a more cerebral and less dance floor affair that has you day dreaming amongst the meandering pads and classic detroit electro vibes. a soft acid line runs throughout, while the whole cuts creates nostalgia of old warp records last of all simulaq which takes the b-side has wide and vast rubber kicks alongside booming bass. making this side a merge of bass and electro. trippy stabs and dark energy pervades the whole thing, making it track for the late hours. while 13 is an unlucky number for some, this certainly doesn t seem to be the case for catch recordings.

nice price deal !!! 199x is a new record label from reykjavík, iceland but based in copenhagen, denmark focusing on releasing electronic music by icelandic and international artists. each release is pressed on high quality 180g vinyl limited to 500 copies, also available digitally. each album cover has hand drawn artwork by m. kristensen. the first release on 199x is from a musician born in zürich, switzerland who s name is mateo hurtado. for the last 2 years hurtado has been posting tracks and live improvisations on youtube and soundcloud made with his modular and hardware gear as well playing all over europe. this ep by hurtado includes four tracks recorded live with heavy bass, dark-atmospheric repetitive sounds that make the perfect experimental ambient techno with minimal post processing.

too $hort�s legendary 1992 effort �shorty the pimp� is back in effect on vinyl thanks to the hip hop preservationist at get on down. though many don�t consider this to be one of too $hort�s strongest releases, the project did move well over 80.000 in its first week of release landing at number 6 on the billboard top 200. taking the title from the incredibly rare 1973 blaxploitation film, too $hort does what he does best on shorty the pimp: funk beats, oastful braggadocio, a few conscious rhymes and layers of straight up pimp talk. the lyrical content can certainly be considered comical and entertaining. �shorty the pimp� is also a stand out project for producer ant banks who did many of the beats for the project, his first works with too $hort with many more to follow over the next decade. oddly enough, one of the best comments on �shorty the pimp� comes from a random guy on the internet who commented on his experience listening to the release, �i ran my car into a tree after listening to �it don�t stop� definitely made for cars with the booming systems!�

considered by many as -the motown of salsa,- fania records is probably the most transcendental label in the history of latin music. by bringing together the eclectic vision of dominican bandleader johnny pacheco with the business savvy of impresario jerry masucci, fania created a sound: the apex of tropical music, combined with the swing of big band jazz and the gritty vibe of american r&b. the label provided an artistic heaven for a young generation of musicians who were inspired to experiment with new musical formats. the albums recorded by willie colón, héctor lavoe, rubén blades and eddie palmieri from the early 70s to the mid- 80s went beyond the parameters of so-called -salsa- - taking latin music to unsuspected levels of sophistication. when you think latin soul you relate to a mélange of r&b and mambo rhythms intermixed culturally by and for the youth of america. it was 1974, and a brash youngster by the name of ralfi pagan walked into the offices of fania records and demanded to be heard. fania president jerry masucci allowed ralfi that opportunity, and ralfi auditioned for jerry right there in his office. it took only a few moments for masucci to realize that he was in the company of his newest recording artist, he put ralfi in touch with recording director, johnny pacheco, who hurried him into the recording studio for ralfi�s first fania recording session.

walter gibbons, a true master of the mix, a disco legend, a pioneer of dance music. theres literally very few who can lay claim to progressing the artform of studio mixing and technique than the late gibbons. his contribution to contemporary music cannot be understated, first as a dj where his drum laced experimentation captured the ears and minds of his peers and the dancers, then later as a mixer and studio genius where he continued on his quest. often fixated on the percussion and breaks within records his versions would often dive into spaced out, dubby and stripped back territory that very few of his peers were even contemplating at that time, fervently reconstructing the tracks themselves and often the time, space and dancefloor within which the record was being played. a true original, gibbons was behind many of the definitive versions of the classics, his unique style often catapulting records that were just fine in their original form into brand new colourful, cosmic interpretations that flourished sonically and rhythmically with brand new sounds that bristled with vision.

a year after his debut outing on the label, max essa makes a welcome return to hell yeah with the han zon roc ep, which is another of his impossibly laidback offerings. essa is of course the long time uk talent who has become a part of the balearic mafia thanks to releases on labels like aficionado, music for dreams, and his own jansen jardin. this is the second coming together of artist and label and is another timeless excursion far out to sea. opener han zon roc (midori coup) is an epic 12inch minute adventure that slowly awakens your spirit with new age guitar plucks and heavenly ambience before organic drums slowly being to drift into earshot. they grow ever larger as synths start to spray about the mix, hand drums pitter patter and big chords bring the soul-shine. its like the soundtrack to an afternoon boat party all condensed into one brilliant cut. how you showed me everything then gets super chill with lazy drum tumbles, bendy guitar lines and scattered hits. withering cosmic chords colour the airwaves and its a track that will slow your heartbeat to nothing. last of all, rain birds alfalfa jam is a analogue drum work out with early 90s hip hop influences and diving basslines. it s light and airy, nimble and playful and of course filled with the sort of tropical rays that make all of essa works so brilliantly escapist.

here you have the third installment of our pole group 50 milestone release, closing the trilogy in both vinyl and digital formats. all tracks have been made in common, each of the label foundational members have work sound parts that in a second process have been assigned randomly to others to work with them, in a creation loop that becomes somehow the true essence of the label. you ll never know who is making what, it s just oscar mulero, exium and reeko in essence and mixed up.

ow finally on vinyl: artbat are bringing their first full ep release to diynamic music. the three-tracker -planeta- starts off with the title track -planeta-, a rapid-fire techno odyssey that might as well be taken from a relentless pursuit in a futuristic action movie. this is followed by the gloomy bassline of -prometheus-. heavy on percussive elements, the track is divided in half by a cascading synth-break only to return with more layers of percussions, strings and the hypnotic bassline. closing off the ep is -sand in your shoes- featuring london based artist dino lenny, who has previously worked with madonna or wu-tang clan and produced remixes for underworld, missy elliot or timbaland. the collab track is a dreamy deep-house tune and a perfectly emotive way to finish the record.

spice 1 is an undisputed west coast legend, who first hit the scene after the n.w.a. and closer to home too $hort explosion of the late 80s. as history showed, he continued that bloodline with finesse and authority. his nasal flow is menacing and strong, and fans have been consistently captivated by his hood tales since his self-titled debut in 1992. if you want thematic range with your mcs, spice isn�t that dude he is all about crime tales and the perils of ghetto life. and he attacks that storytelling sweet spot with each new cut. spice 1 boasted four singles by the time it was all said and done, and breezed to gold status on the strength of cuts like the catchy east bay gangster, the heartfelt tales and truths of welcome to the ghetto, and the thick, grooving in my neighborhood. he even produced the alcohol-themed 187 proof, another of the albums singles, and the hands-down cleverest vocal outing on the lp. sonically, the backdrops on spice 1 range from plunky, keyboard-bassline funk to deeper, fuzzy 70s samples and he sounds strong on top of both. break yourself is fueled with an electro-funk drive, 1-800 spice brings reggae flavor, and peace to my nine gets chunkier, with a well-placed p-funk one nation under a groove sample. presented here on official retail vinyl for the first time since its initial release 26 years ago, spice 1s debut holds the test of time and carries the california gangsta flag with pride. some colors just don�t fade.

rough and ready machine tracks from brazilian producer/december collaborator innsyter (la club resource). cyn002 picks up where coletivo vandalismo left off, channeling that same wild, diy bedroom studio spirit across nine individual recordings. opening with sprawling synth motifs fighting against a steady rhythm track, desintegrado sounds like an industrial dub punk trying to channel early cluster or moebius and strangely succeeding. the rest of the lp treats us to vaguely drexciyan, subaquatic electro (bries) and twisted lo-fi minimalism with bonus eerie monologue samples (superficial love). the one recurring theme on magnetic healing is innsyter s clear love for mournful, post-punk inspired melodies. it comes across loud and clear on almost every track yet never sounds tired. things eventually draw to a close with the hopelessly romantic new wave instrumental forest shaman - a short ballad for all those weary-eyed party-goers who stuck around til the sun came up!

bar records is the lovechild of bar rotterdam, a club founded in 2013. bar records will release a variety of music linked to the club, by people that are regularly playing in the laid back colorful space that is bar. we are excited to announce the first release with french label owner of macadam mambo, sacha mambo, who made us some trippy originals, and local fader (from borneo). he created a trancy banger aswell as a more dreamy house track.

phaedrus is the monikor of dutch dj and producer joris kamma who currently resides in seattle. drawing from multiple techno and house influences in the early nineties, joris developed his own unique aesthetic best described as deep and quirky sounds always combined with a strong groove. for this special transfusions release, joris has crafted 4 minimal yet powerful techno weapons that are sure to bend the minds and heighten the energy of the crowd in the way that only perfect techno can. simply put, this is classic techno at it s finest!

we introduce comfort zone, a young producer from montreal, who has been making music for around 7 years now. he is inspired by �music from late 90s/early 00s video game soundtracks and the occasional snippets of electronic music i heard as a kid�. we find that statement very much reflected in this release, as he masters the challenge of blending mysterious samples and different styles to form harmonious compositions. on one side of the 4-track ep we have 2 groovy house tracks, reminiscent of early 2000s house by the likes of lance desardi, ian pooley and atjazz, on the other side 2 classic jungle tracks which uphold our tradition of releasing timeless music.

infuse027 marks label head enzo siragusa�s debut solo ep on the imprint. for the occasion, he finally releases �little angel�, a track close to his heart which was debuted on his bbc radio 1 essential mix at the end of 2016. embellished with swinging drums, and gentle soaring pads, it s a feel-good masterstroke of deep house. on the flip is romania�s cristi cons on remix duty, who keeps things deep but adds a subtle attitude that builds throughout, all while paying homage to the original.
